Chester Perkosky
Chester Perkosky, age 88, of Point Marion, Pa., died Sunday, April 16, 2006, in Laurel Ridge Center, Uniontown, Pa. Born February 24, 1918, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the now late Julius and Rose (Levischenski) Perkosky.
Following high school, Chester played Minor League Baseball in the farm systems of the New York Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals.
After serving in Europe during World War II in the United States Army, he returned to Point Marion where he worked in area coal mines and volunteered as a manager of the American Legion baseball team.
He retired from J & L Steel as a Mine Foreman and was a member of the American Legion Post 499 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 747 both in Point Marion.
A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Julia Balsega Perkosky; a son, Richard Perkosky of Washington, D.C., and a daughter, Rita Perkosky Solomon and her husband, Judge Gerald R. Solomon, of Masontown, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren: Gerald R. Solomon II, Kelley D. Solomon, George R. Solomon and Amy Solomon; and a great-granddaughter, Sophia Juliette Rose Solomon.
Predeceased are his parents and his sister, Helen Perkosky Griffin.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial today (Tuesday, April 18) at 2 p.m. in SAINT HUBERT ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, Point Marion, with the Rev. Father Joseph L. Sredzinski as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Wolf’s Cemetery, Dilliner, Pa., with Military Rites and Honors accorded at graveside by the Point Marion Veterans posts.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Saint Hubert Roman Catholic Church, 9 Sadler Street, Point Marion, PA 15474 or the Uniontown Hospital, 500 West Berkeley Street, Uniontown, PA 15401.
