Michael (Iggy) Powelko, 86, of Bobtown, Pa., passed away Thursday, April 20, 2006 at home. He was born May 30, 1919, in Masontown, Pa., son of the late Michael and Anastasia Miscovich Powelko.

He was a member of Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, New Salem. Pa.,

An Army veteran of World War II, a retired coal miner, having worked for 46 years at the J. and L. Steel Corp., Shannopin Mine, Bobtown, Pa., a member of the UMWA Local 6159, the American Legion 499 Point Marion, and the Polish American Citizens Club, Bobtown.

He is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Pauline Yasecko Powelko, whom he married September 25, 1948; two sons: Ronald Powelko and his wife, Annette of Uniontown and Kenneth Powelko of Bobtown; one daughter, Gloria Bednar and her husband, Anthony of Carmichaels; three grandchildren: Natalie Powelko, Tony Bednar and Jennifer Bednar; a sister, Katy Jurczak of Nemacolin, Pa.; and a brother, John Pavelko of New York, N.Y.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Frederick, Anna Burich and Stella McAleer.

Iggy enjoyed working in his garden and listening to Polka music.

Friends will be received in THE LOUIS E. RUDOLPH FUNERAL HOME, 15 Main Street, Point Marion, Pa., on Sunday, April 23, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday, April 24, 2006 when a Panahida will be held in the funeral home at 9 a.m. Divine Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m., in Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, New Salem with Rev. Father Jerome G. Botsko officiating.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.

Parastas service will be held in the funeral home at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
