Committees look to improve B-C
FREDERICKTOWN – Superintendent Karen Downie and President Sandra Yohe reported on two committees working toward the goal of making the Beth-Center School District better, during the board’s regular meeting Monday evening. Downie said the District Improvement Committee, meeting for a second time recently, wants to increase student enrollment in the district.
“We’re working on getting students back to Beth-Center and providing a good education,” she said.
Yohe said the Wellness Committee, which meets every Monday at 7:20 a.m. in the middle school, is working on a wellness plan and policy for the district. Committee members include teachers, community members and a school nurse.
In other matters, the board voted to expel a student for 45 days, beginning March 31. The student must receive drug and alcohol counseling, education through the school’s alternate education program and serve one year social probation, Yohe explained, adding that the student will be referred to the drug and alcohol team of the Student Assistance Program (SAP).
“(The student) will be admitted back once the administration is satisfied he was properly counseled,” she said.
The board also conducted the following business:
– Renewed an agreement with Community Action Southwest to continue the Kindergarten Club held June 12-23.
– Accepted a monthly software maintenance agreement for $1,419.
– A committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 1, at 6 p.m. with an executive session for negotiations to follow. The board’s regular planning meeting will be held Monday, May 22, at 6 p.m. with the regular board meeting to follow at 7 p.m.
