Nellie Czyrwus Ferek

Nellie M. Czyrwus Ferek, age 90, of Merrittstown, Pa., passed away Friday, April 21, 2006, in the Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa. She was born April 20, 1916, in Tower Hill One, Fayette County, Pa., the daughter of John Czyrwus and Katherine Vach Czyrwus.

Nellie was a member of The Church of The Madonna, Cardale, Pa., and The Confraternity of Christian Mothers at the church.

During World War II she was employed by Goodyear Aircraft in Akron, Ohio, where she helped build the PBY aircraft.

She was also employed at Republic Sportswear during the sixties and seventies.

Nellie was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan and also an avid animal lover.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. “Kelly” Ferek in 1975, her stepfather, William Was, a sister, Anna C. Rafitz, a brother, John Czyrwus, a stepbrother, Joseph Waltz, and her parents.

Surviving are sons: Lawrence J. Ferek and his wife, Frances, of New Salem, Pa., and Leonard P. Ferek and his wife, Diann, of Bull Run Road, Brownsville, Pa.; grandchildren: Leonard Paul Ferek II and his wife, Denise, Liana Addis and her husband, Jason, Kelli Ann Sisler and her husband, Shawn, Tony Ferek and his wife, Cindy, and J. J. Ferek; great-grandchildren: Courtney Diane Ferek, Evan Sisler and Brittney Nicole Ferek; and special nieces: Cecilia Marion and her husband, Bob, of Norfolk, Virginia, Cynthia Kushma and her husband, Paul, of Richmond, Virginia, and Jeannie Wolny and her husband, Bob, of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Friends will be received in the ROBERT T. KISH FUNERAL HOME INC., ONE LEGION STREET, REPUBLIC, Pa., today (Tuesday, April 25) until 9:30 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.

A Funeral Mass follows at 10 a.m. in The Church of The Madonna, Cardale, with the Rev. Father Stephen R. Bugay, the Rev. Father James F. Petrovsky and the Rev. Father James Clark as Concelebrants.

Interment will be in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.

Visitation was also held Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Parish Wake Service was held in the funeral home on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
