Greene jury seeks charges in fatal accident
WAYNESBURG – A Greene County man could face charges of involuntary manslaughter and recklessly endangering another person after an inquest Wednesday into a 2004 crash that killed two men. Greene County Coroner Gregory P. Rohanna said the jury in the inquest into the death of Chad Allen Seybold and James M. Superack, both of Waynesburg, recommended the charges against Michael Koratich also of Waynesburg following testimony by more than a dozen witnesses and officials.
In November 2004, the then 21-year-old Seybold died in the one-car crash after the vehicle, driven by Superack struck a tree on Rolling Meadows Road in Franklin Township at 1:58 a.m.
Superack initially survived the crash but later died in the intensive care surgical unit at Ruby Memorial Hospital in West Virginia.
Rohanna pronounced Seybold dead at the scene.
The charges against Koratich stem from his involvement with the men prior to the crash, Rohanna said Wednesday.
Rohanna said Koratich is the president and bar manager at Koratich Golden Rail in Franklin Township where the two men had been drinking before leaving the establishment just before the accident occurred.
According to state police Trooper Michael Hertig, the investigating officer in the crash, Superack was traveling east along Rolling Meadows Road when the car left the roadway on a slight left hand curve, traveled 195 feet across a lawn and then struck the tree.
Both men were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, police said.
Rohanna said an autopsy conducted following the crash revealed Seybold died from multiple blunt force traumas.
The jury recommendations will be given to the Greene County District Attorney’s office.
