Sunday School Association to hold convention
The Fayette County Sunday School Association will hold its 110th convention May 5-6 in the Mount Olive Evangelical Church of North America, located on Pleasant Valley Road, about one mile south on Route 982 from the intersection of Routes 119 and 982. The Rev. Joe McCarty will be host pastor. The convention will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and the Saturday service will be held at 3 p.m. The speaker for those sessions will be the Rev. Dr. Jim McCarty from Quakertown. He is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of North America. He has a doctorate in human services in nonprofit agency management from Capella University, a master’s degree in special education from Penn State University, a master’s degree in business administration from Eastern College, a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., and a master’s in divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. He has served as dean of academic services at Lehigh-Carbon Community College since 2003.
Marlette Evans, president of the State Sunday School Association, will present a program based on the life and works of Fanny Crosby at 7 p.m. Saturday. Evans has done extensive research on Crosby and the background of the hymns she wrote.
A few of Crosby’s songs will be sung during the program, including “Praise Him! Praise Him!’ “Near the Cross,’ “Blessed Assurance,’ “Redeemed’ and “Tell Me the Story of Jesus.’
