Fayette County Fair entrants win awards

The following are results from judging this week at the Fayette County Fair: Home Economics Building: Department 19, Handcrafts – Nira Yarris of Uniontown, grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor; April Garner of Ohiopyle, reserve grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor; and Frank Engwer of Adamsburg was named Best of Show. Department 18, Needlecraft – Linda Percy of Connellsville, grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor; Nira Yarris of Uniontown, reserve grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor; and Cheryl Peers of Perryopolis was named Best of Show. Department 15, Home and Dairy Products – Susan Zylka of Mount Pleasant, grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor; Betsy Haas of Vanderbilt, reserve grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor. Ball Award winners included pickled foods – Mary Agnes Dillon and Susan Zylka, both of Mount Pleasant; soft spreads – M.J. Williams of Connellsville; fruit – Lois Fisher of West Newton and Susan Zylka of Mount Pleasant; vegetables – Holly Fosbrink of Dunbar and Minnie Shroyer of Lemont Furnace. Department 11, youth floral: Best of Show, Katie Diamond of Smithfield. Department 17, floral: Best of Show – Betsy Haas of Vanderbilt, specimen, and Betty Moser of Smithfield, houseplant.

Breeding sheep: open class – supreme champion ram, Darren Crouse of Sycamore with a ram bouillet; supreme champion ewe, Bob and Chris Webb of Claysville with a Dorset.

Angel food cake contest – first place, Elizabeth Drapela of Acme; second place, Bonnie Mortimer of Mount Pleasant.

Apple pie contest – first place, Debbie Marella of Fairchance; second place, Elizabeth Drapela of Acme; third place, Olive D’Isidoro of Perryopolis; fourth place, Patty Mills of Vanderbilt; and fifth place, Clara Dean Delaney of Uniontown.

Light horses: supreme champion stallion, Jim Thomas of Coal Center, with a Paso Fino; supreme champion mare, Sarah Regula of Milford, Delaware, with a Paint; and supreme champion gelding, Tina Allen of Uniontown with a Quarter Horse.

Haybale competition – first place, Stacy Kmetz of Perryopolis; second place, Rachel Free of Smock; third place, Jessica Langer of Connellsville; fourth place, Savannah Prue of Star Junction; and fifth place, Dalton Kmetz of Perryopolis.

Scarecrow competition – first place, Stephanie Shumar of Smock; second place, Jeff DiNunno of Uniontown; third place, Susan Lowery of Lemont Furnace; fourth place, Katie Diamond of Smithfield; and fifth place, Rachel Free of Smock.

Squash – Katie Batronis of Adah, champion for most perfect pumpkin; Emily Diamond of Smithfield, champion for face painting; Michaela Lowery of Lemont Furnace, champion for squash decorating; Brady May of Mill Run, champion for perfect zucchini; Nathan Miner of Mill Run, champion for most perfect yellow squash.

Wood – champion fleece, Darren Crouse of Sycamore; champion naturally colored fleece, Travis Crouse of Sycamore; and grand champion fleece, Darren Crouse of Sycamore.

Mason-Dixon Polled Hereford – grand champion female, Deanna Jak Farm of Wagontown, Pa.; reserve grand champion female, Tad Gutshall of Three Springs, Pa.; grand champion bull, Tad Gutshall and reserve grand champion bull, Deanna Jak Farm.

Semi-truck pulls: first place, James F. Barron of Somerset; second place, Brett Barnett of Export; third place, Joe Velinsky of West Sunbury; fourth place, Owen McGill of Scott-dale; and fifth place, Cory Fox of Cavet, Pa.

Tri-axle trucks: first place, Walter Miller of Beaver Falls; second place, Chris Maust of Somerset; third place, Larry Firestone of Berlin; fourth place, Bill Close of Farmington; fifth place, Gary Deal of Markleysburg.

Pro-stock tractors: first place, Dan Hildenbrand of Ruffsdale; second place, Logan Smith of Fulks Run, Va.; third place, Brady Mermon of Avella; fourth place, Jack Guiletto of Ravena, Ohio; and fifth place, Ross Martin of Enon Valley.
