Fayette County Fair entrants win awards
The following are results from judging this week at the Fayette County Fair: Home Economics Building: Department 19, Handcrafts – Nira Yarris of Uniontown, grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor; April Garner of Ohiopyle, reserve grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor; and Frank Engwer of Adamsburg was named Best of Show. Department 18, Needlecraft – Linda Percy of Connellsville, grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor; Nira Yarris of Uniontown, reserve grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor; and Cheryl Peers of Perryopolis was named Best of Show. Department 15, Home and Dairy Products – Susan Zylka of Mount Pleasant, grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor; Betsy Haas of Vanderbilt, reserve grand champion blue ribbon exhibitor. Ball Award winners included pickled foods – Mary Agnes Dillon and Susan Zylka, both of Mount Pleasant; soft spreads – M.J. Williams of Connellsville; fruit – Lois Fisher of West Newton and Susan Zylka of Mount Pleasant; vegetables – Holly Fosbrink of Dunbar and Minnie Shroyer of Lemont Furnace. Department 11, youth floral: Best of Show, Katie Diamond of Smithfield. Department 17, floral: Best of Show – Betsy Haas of Vanderbilt, specimen, and Betty Moser of Smithfield, houseplant.
Breeding sheep: open class – supreme champion ram, Darren Crouse of Sycamore with a ram bouillet; supreme champion ewe, Bob and Chris Webb of Claysville with a Dorset.
Angel food cake contest – first place, Elizabeth Drapela of Acme; second place, Bonnie Mortimer of Mount Pleasant.
Apple pie contest – first place, Debbie Marella of Fairchance; second place, Elizabeth Drapela of Acme; third place, Olive D’Isidoro of Perryopolis; fourth place, Patty Mills of Vanderbilt; and fifth place, Clara Dean Delaney of Uniontown.
Light horses: supreme champion stallion, Jim Thomas of Coal Center, with a Paso Fino; supreme champion mare, Sarah Regula of Milford, Delaware, with a Paint; and supreme champion gelding, Tina Allen of Uniontown with a Quarter Horse.
Haybale competition – first place, Stacy Kmetz of Perryopolis; second place, Rachel Free of Smock; third place, Jessica Langer of Connellsville; fourth place, Savannah Prue of Star Junction; and fifth place, Dalton Kmetz of Perryopolis.
