Vincent S. Roskovensky

Vincent S. Roskovensky, 83, of Fairchance, Pa., died Friday, August 4, 2006. He was born July 19, 1923, in Uniontown, Pa., son of Elmer R. Roskovensky and Anna V. (Balok) Roskovensky.

His parents, two infant sisters, a sister, Agnes and a brother, Elmer, predeceased him.

Vincent worked a variety of jobs over the years including his father’s home construction business, operating a streetcar, working in a cigar factory and as a carpenter in the Robena Mine for United Steel Corporation for over 32 years.

He served in World War II in the United States Army in New Guinea, New Zealand, Philippines, Australia and Japan.

He completed an Associate Degree with the Chicago Technical College and another with an International Correspondence School of Scranton, Pa.

Vincent was a member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, Pa., the United Mine Workers of America, V.F.W Post 7219, Fairchance Social Hall and AMVETS Post 103.

He was a master carpenter and built many useful and fine items in his basement shop such as inlaid jewelry boxes, grandfather clocks and kitchen cabinetry. He took great pride in his work, which was first class and always strived for perfection. His motto was “Only in the things in which you find joy, may you truly excel” – author unknown.

Vincent was a man of tradition, perfection and principle. He enjoyed working in his garden and had many friends who would lend a hand and he helped them in return.

His children will remember their annual trip to Idlewild Park, water fights in the yard and his love of a good T-bone steak.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Gertrude F. (Kozel) Roskovensky who he married on August 5, 1946 at Saint Michael’s Cathedral in Toronto, Canada; five children: Carol Yalcinkaya and her husband, Dr. Tolga Yalcinkaya of Warner Springs, California, Attorney Vincent Roskovensky, II and his wife, Christine (Bruni) of Uniontown, Gerald Roskovensky and his wife, Nancy (Carr) of West Milton, Pa., Lt. Col. Denise McCormick and her husband, Gary of Olympia, Washington and Jean Thompson and her husband, James “Butch” of Fairchance, Pa.; 11 grandchildren: Sean Grskovich of North Huntingdon, Pa, David Ferris and his wife, Rachel (Bardo) of Ohio, James Ferris and his companion, Dana Graham of Pittsburgh, Pa., Canan Askin of Warner Springs, California, Attorneys Vincent M. Roskovensky and his wife, Lisa (O’Connell) of Moon Township, Pa., Jeremy Roskovensky and his wife, Katie (Brown) of York, Pa., Gregory, Daniel and Sarah Roskovensky of West Milton, Pa., Katie and James Ross Thompson of Fairchance, Pa.; three great-grandchildren: Dane Morse of Johnstown, Pa., Sydney and Ryley Ferris of Ohio ; a sister, Marie Sulc of Washington, Pa.; an aunt, Christine (Balok) Krilosky of Perth Amboy, New Jersey; many nieces and nephews and great and grand nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in the GOLDSBORO-TOMI FUNERAL HOME, 21 East Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, until 9:30 a.m. when a Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, Pa., with the Rev. Father John Foriska, and the Rev. Father Andrew M. Kawecki as Con-Celebrants.

Interment will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa., with Military Rites accorded by the AMVETS Post 103.

A Wake Service will be held in the funeral home at 8:45 p.m. on Monday evening.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, Pa.
