Sandra Lee Welsh, 54, of Lemont Furnace, Pa., died Friday, August 4, 2006, in Excela Health Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg, Pa. She was born on August 31, 1951, in Connellsville, Pa., the daughter of Thomas R. Mazurik, Sr. and Dolores M. (Upton) Mazurik.

Her father preceded her in death.

Sandy was a graduate of Geibel Catholic High School, Connellsville, with the Class of 1969 and of California University of Pennsylvania. She did graduate work at California and Penn State Universities. She was an elementary teacher with the Connellsville Area School District for 29 1/2 years. She really loved teaching her students at Dunbar Borough Elementary School. She was a member of Saint John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, the Dunbar Borough P.T.O., PSEA and CAEA.

Sandy will be remembered as a caring person who would do anything to make people happy. Her smiling personality will be long remembered. She enjoyed traveling and reading and had a great love for pets, especially her dog and two cats.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Dolores; her husband, Norman Edward Welsh of Lemont Furnace, with whom she would have celebrated 33 years of marriage on August 18; a daughter, Kelly Ann (Welsh) Vanyo and husband, Sean of Mount Pleasant, Pa.; grandson, Conner Edward Vanyo of Mount Pleasant; a brother, Thomas Mazurik, Jr. and wife Carla of Waynesburg; and many other loving relatives.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Visitation will continue in the funeral home on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

There will be a Mass celebrating her life in Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown, at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Noah’s Ark of Fayette County, 477 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., or the Uniontown Public Library, 24 Jefferson Street, Uniontown, Pa. 15401.
