Karen Rae ‘Kay’ Schiffbauer
Karen Rae “Kay” Schiffbauer, age 69, of Hopwood, Pa., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2006, in the home of Bruce and Gina Roby, Hopwood, after a two-year battle with cancer. “Kay” was born on August 23, 1936, in Hopwood, Pa., the daughter of William Woodrow Schiffbauer and Thelma Sampey Schiffbauer.
A graduate of North Union High School in 1954 and California State Teachers College in 1958, “Kay” taught fifth and sixth grade in the Pleasant Hills School District, Pittsburgh, Pa., for 14 years.
She then returned to live in Hopwood where over the years she voluntarily cared for numerous elderly relatives and family friends and set an example of loving kindness for two generations of people.
“Kay” was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church in Uniontown, Pa.
“Kay” is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William Scott and Judith Parke Schiffbauer; her niece, Rachael Schiffbauer Parker of Lexington, Kentucky; and her nephew, Benjamin Parke Schiffbauer of Olympia, Washington. She was also beloved by many dear cousins including Bruce and Gina Roby of Hopwood and their daughters, Marissa and Chelsea, and Edward and Barbara De Paula of Staten Island, New York, and their children, Edward Jr. and Melissa.
Friends and family will be received at a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. in the CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, Pa., today (Monday, August 7, 2006). The Rev. William Rodahaver will officiate.
To honor Kay’s great love of animals, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her memory to Noah’s Ark of the Fayette County Humane Society, 477 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, PA 15401.
