Mike “Milan” Washko

Mike “Milan” Washko, age 88, a lifelong resident of Martin, Fayette County, Pa., died on Friday, August 4, 2006, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia. He was born on April 16, 1918, in Woodside (Martin), Fayette County, Pa., the son of John Washko and Mary (Knezovich) Washko.

Mike was a member of Saint Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church.

He served his country during World War II in the United States Army.

A coal miner for forty-three years, he was a member of Local Union 6310 and retired from Duquesne Light Company.

He was a member of the Faith-Gray-McArdle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584, Fort Mason American Legion Post 423 and the United Mine Workers of America District 2.

His parents, four sisters, Bessie Malinsky, Sophia Zorosky, Mildred Gustafson and Minerva St. Clair, and three brothers, Nick Washko, Mitchell Washko and George Washko, preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Frances “Betty” (Stabile) Washko; four children: John Washko and his wife, Janice, of Frederick, Maryland, Michael Washko and his wife, Sharon, of Masontown, Pa., Mary Rhodes and her husband, Jack, of Martin, Pa., and James Washko of Hagerstown, Maryland; a sister, Emily Washko Sloan of Martin, Pa.; four grandchildren: Riki Colgan, Ashley Washko, Scott Viands and Justin Rhodes; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 515 North Main Street, Masontown, Pa., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, August 9, until 9:30 a.m. when Funeral Services will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Father Dimitre Angelov Dimitrov officiating.

Interment will follow in Saint Mary’s Russian Orthodox Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 and American Legion Post 423.
