Centerville council approves plan for tower

By Amanda Clegg 2 min read

CENTERVILLE – Borough council approved a plan for Verizon Wireless to erect a 240-foot cellular tower near Litton Road to gain better reception in the area, during their regular meeting Tuesday evening. Dave Evans, a Verizon real estate manager, said cellular phone users would gain better reception along state routes 40 and 481 with the new tower.

The three-legged tower will be in a fenced in area, Evans said, adding that the company received approval for the placement from historical societies.

He also said the company has plans to place more towers in Fredericktown and other cellular carriers may lease space from the company’s towers to expand their reception area as well.

Council also discussed recent meetings held with California and West Brownsville about possible plans for the Center-West Joint Sewer Authority project.

Terry Seddon, an authority board member, said the authority is close to going to bid for their project and wanted to meet with California to discuss possibly sending Center-West sewage to be treated in California, which has expansion plans in the works.

The authority plans to bid their original plan to build their own sewage plant in late September, he said, adding that California engineers are conducting a feasibility study on the matter.

President Patsy Ricciuti raised concerns about the cost and pace of the sewerage project.

“It’s just a slow process,” Seddon said, listing the snags the authority has faced. “We’re as disgusted as everyone else.”

Seddon noted that the authority has the residents’ best interests in mind.

“Whatever is best for the residents is what we want to do,” he said.

In other matters, council listened to complaints from residents about smells and noise disturbing the peace among neighbors. One of those complaints concerned a dog kennel in the area and residents signed a petition to present to council.

“Somebody with some authority needs to step in and do something,” one resident said. “The noise from these dogs is unbelievable.”

Borough police said the owner was cited for violating a noise ordinance.
