Redstone accepts sewer authority chairman’s resignation
REDSTONE TWP. – The township supervisors Wednesday accepted the resignation of Redstone Sewer Authority chairman Dwayne Thomas effective August 31, but most likely will not name a permanent replacement until January. “The authority feels they can handle it until the beginning of the year. They don’t have a problem with a quorum or anything. We want to make sure we have the right person,” said Supervisor George Matis.
Supervisor Larry Williams said the supervisors will most likely appoint Matis as the temporary replacement for Thomas until reorganization in January. Terms on the authority run from January to January. There are several years remaining on Thomas’ term.
The supervisors are asking for anyone in the authority’s service area who is interested in serving on the board to submit a resume for the position.
In other matters, the supervisors went on record opposing proposed legislation regarding statewide cable franchising, with concerns that it could affect the township’s ability to collect franchising fees.
“We are definitely dependent on the three percent cable income that comes in,” Williams said.
The township in the past has designated the franchise fee to recreational programs in the township.
The supervisors also adopted a resolution requiring anyone who drives a township-insured vehicle, including police and fire vehicles, to provide the municipality with a copy of his or her valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
The supervisors also entered into a five-year agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for maintenance of the Patterson Road spur and a small section of Route 40, and another agreement for traffic lights at Redstone way and Grindstone Road at Route 40.
The township’s code enforcement officer Jeffrey Harris reported that the Steve Courson Humane Society received 34 complaints in July, picking up 20 dogs and 30 cats while patrolling for 34 hours.
