Blanche Wilfong Messenger, 99, of Tampa, Florida, and formerly of Puritan, Pa., passed away Saturday, August 12, 2006, in Tampa, Florida. She was born on March 13, 1907, in Tucker County, West Virginia, the daughter of the Rev. Lester Wilfong and Grace Upton Wilfong.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, J. Holly Messenger, a son, James E. Messenger, a daughter, Carolyn Dearth and a grandson, James L. Messenger.

She was a member of the Forest Hills Presbyterian Church of Tampa, Florida and a former member of the New Salem Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Glennville Normal College (Glennville State College) where she earned a degree in education.

She is survived by a daughter, Jean Morris and her husband James; a daughter-in-law, Lois Mains Messenger, all of Tampa; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Messenger will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2006, in the Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, Tampa, Florida.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the New Salem Presbyterian Church at PO Box 455, New Salem, PA 15468.
