Leonard Cottom

Leonard Cottom, 62, of Dawson, Lower Tyrone Township, passed away August 17, 2006, in his residence, with his loving family at his bedside, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born October 23, 1943, in Connellsville, Pa., the son of Maude J. Strickler Cottom and the late Irvin J. Cottom.

Mr. Cottom was a 1961 year graduate of Mary Fuller Frazier High School; he was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Services, recently retiring after 39 years of service. He also actively continued to farm with the aid of his sons, receiving the Conservationist of the year award in 2005. He attended the Vanderbilt Nazarene Church and the Bryan Methodist Church. He was a member of the James Cochran Lodge 614 and the Dawson Grange 419 both of Dawson. He was active on the dart ball league playing for the Bryan Methodist Church receiving a lifetime award averaging 400. He loved all sports, square dancing, actively volunteering at the Community Fair, County Fair, and the Brownfield Community Center.

Leonard will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda Ansell Cottom; his three sons: Darian R. Cottom of Dawson, Eric S. Cottom of Dawson and his wife, Rhonda, Brent A. Cottom and his wife, Teresa of San Diego, California; stepgrand-daughters: Brittany Singo and Clarissa Peterson; granddaughter, Nicole Erin Cottom; two brothers: Glenn O. Cottom of Dawson, Ellsworth O. Cottom and his wife, Jerilyn of Great Falls Virginia; one sister, Doris H. Cottom Tatterson and her husband, John of Annapolis Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the RALPH E. GALLEY FUNERAL HOME, Dawson, Pa., on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Monday until 11 a.m., the hour of service with the Rev. Thomas Cahill and Rev. David A. Bell Sr., officiating.

Interment will be in the Bryan Cemetery. The James Cochran Lodge 614 will conduct services Saturday at 7 p.m.
