A state Department of Transportation contractor is replacing the Route 51 bridge over Route 119 in North Union Township in a project related to construction of Route 43, the Mon-Fayette Expressway. The project also includes building a new concrete highway, the Northgate Highway, from Route 51 at Confer Drive to Route 40 at Fan Hollow Road. The 1.5-mile highway also will provide access to a new Route 43 interchange at Old Pittsburgh Road.
