John S. Peton Sr.
John S. Peton Sr., 82, of Brownsville, Pa., died, Sunday, August 20, 2006, in the Washington Hospital. He was born on April 26, 1924 in Brownfield, Pa., the son of James and Alice Ligas Peton.
John was a member of the Harvest Time Ministries Church in Brownsville, Pa.
He was a veteran of World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart while serving in North Africa. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 295 in Brownsville, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gloria Diana Goodnow Peton, daughter, Carol Ravanbaksh and brothers, Stanley, Joseph and Fred Peton.
John is survived by five children, Judy Effle and husband Dick of Florida, John S. Peton Jr. and wife Nancy of Uniontown, Pa., Robert A. Peton and wife Jennie of Allison, Pa., Michael D. Peton and wife Nancy of Brownsville, Pa., Matthew J. Peton and wife Traci of East Millsboro, Pa.; 15 grandchildren, Brian and Arian Ravanbaksh, Jamie Garrison Krhulik, John, Ryan and Kristin Peton, Jodi Peton Sepesy, Tricia Peton Reposky, Michael II, Karly, Emily and Jessica Peton, Bradley, Bobby and Matthew Peton; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Walter Peton of Philadelphia, Pa., James Peton of Brownsville, Pa. and Eddie Peton of Marietta, Ohio; a sister, Joanne Butchki of Royal, Pa.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, Pa., on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ernest Ross and the Rev. Michael D. Peton officiating.
Interment will be in LaFayette Memorial Park where full Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 295, 275, 940 and 838..
