By Josh Krysak 2 min read

The state police conducted a ground and aerial search for a missing South Union Township man Tuesday afternoon after police discovered his backpack and bicycle in the Uniontown area. According to police, William “Billy” McCune, 35, of Bierer Wood Acres was last seen riding his 10-speed bicycle from the West Leisenring area toward Uniontown Saturday evening.

After he was reported missing Sunday, an unidentified woman discovered McCune’s birth certificate on the sidewalk on North Beeson Avenue Monday afternoon and turned it in to city police. His bicycle and backpack were found in the Uniontown area Tuesday morning.

According to Uniontown Police Chief Kyle W. Sneddon, about a dozen state police troopers aided by a police helicopter conducted a search for McCune in the area of a creek along Route 51 Tuesday afternoon.

Police said McCune was last seen traveling near Little Summit Road in Dunbar Township around 4:40 p.m. Saturday.

He normally traveled on Bute Road to the Gallatin Avenue area and then on to Bierer Wood Acres, police said.

Police said McCune is about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs about 135 pounds and has brown shoulder-length hair and brown facial hair.

Fayette County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to McCune’s location.

Anyone with information regarding McCune is asked to call the state police at 724-439-7111.

No further information was available as of press time.
