By The 1 min read

Cumberland Township supervisors gave final adoption to the $1.78 million 2007 budget that does not raise property taxes. The spending plan includes a $932,200 general fund and holds real estate taxes at the current rate of 2.44 mills.

Taxes on a property with an assessed value of $50,000 are $122 based on 2.44 mills.

In addition to adopting the budget, the supervisors on Monday approved reinstating an assessment fee on streetlights and fire hydrants. The streetlight assessment is $27 and the hydrant fees are .6 mills for Southwest Water Authority customers and .4 mills for Carmichaels Water Authority Customers.

In unrelated business, the supervisors approved a hauling agreement with Wellington Development, which is planning to build a waste-coal burning power plant in Nemacolin.

The agreement covers damages to Thomas Road that would be caused by construction of the plant at the old LTV Nemacolin mine site.

In other business, the supervisors accepted two grants from Greene County for sewer line extension projects. One grant is for $50,000 for an extension project along Route 88 north and the second is for $20,000 for an extension to Serbiantown.

The supervisors also approved making Pershing Boulevard in Nemacolin a one-way street. Residents submitted a petition requesting the one-way designation.
