Local veterans to participate in service

1 min read

Members of the local Military Order of the Purple Heart and veterans from the Uniontown area will participate in the “Wreaths Across America” memorial service at noon Thursday, Dec. 14, at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville. Similar services will be held at more than 200 veterans cemeteries across the United States.

The service began with Worchester Wreath Co. in Harrington, Maine, placing thousands of wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., 15 years ago.

Retired U.S. Marines Master Sgt. John Kenes, commander of the Department of Pennsylvania unit of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, is spearheading the area memorial service.

The public is invited as are all veterans organizations.

Anyone seeking further information about the service can call either Dale Coughenour at 724-437-6403 or Kenes at 724-437-1220.
