Eleanor E. Proper Johnson
Eleanor E. Proper Johnson, 90 years, of 12 Everett Street, Frewsburg, New York, died Thursday, December 7, 2006, in the Women’s Christian Association Hospital, Jamestown, New York. She was born October 2, 1916, in Cooperstown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Harry and Cora Proper.
Prior to retirement, Eleanor, along with her husband, owned and operated the former Victoria Hotel in Lakewood, New York.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Frewsburg, the Carroll Senior Citizens and the Poland Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed traveling and her dogs, Charlie and Lucy.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Sherman Johnson who died in 1977, three sisters, Florence Proper Woods, Freda Proper Sloss and Clara Proper Baker, two brothers, Harold Proper and Harry Proper, two stepsons, Myrl Carlson and Wayne Johnson, and a stepdaughter, Gertrude Engles.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet Johnson Howe of Jamestown, New York; a son, Myrl Johnson of Frewsburg, New York; two stepdaughters: Rea Marsh and Alice Wilson both of Kennedy, New York; a grandson, Larry Howe of Cheektowaga, New York; several step-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Beggs of Sandy Lake, Pa.
The family will receive friends in the PETERSON FUNERAL HOME, 12 North Pearl Street, Frewsburg, New York 14738 (716-569-5405) today (Saturday, December 9) from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 2 p.m. The Reverend Kenneth Hodgins, Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, and the Reverend Edward Davis, Pastor of the Wheeler Hill Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg, New York.
