Patsy J. Mauro, age 83, of Vestaburg, Pa., died Friday, December 8, 2006, in Canonsburg Hospital, Canonsburg, Pa., following a brief illness. He was born June 26, 1923, in Hutchinson, West Virginia, the son of Guiseppe Mauro and Vincenza Nucci Mauro.

Mr. Mauro was a 1941 graduate of Monessen (Pa.) High School.

He also graduated from the Citizens Police Academy in Washington, Pa.

He was a veteran of the United States Army who served as a First Sergeant during World War II in England, France, Austria and Germany.

Mr. Mauro worked for over 44 years in the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation. He retired in 1985.

He was a member of Saint Michael Archangel Roman Catholic Church of the Saint Oliver Plunkett Parish, Fredericktown, Pa.

Mr. Mauro was also a member of The Italian Heritage Society in Monessen, Pa., The Sons of Italy Frank Ricco Lodge 731 in Brownsville, Pa., and the Beth-Center Senior Citizens Center where he delivered Meals on Wheels for several years.

He was a past member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, a current member of the Steele-Lillie American Legion Post 744 in Marianna, Pa., and a member of the United Steelworkers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Rita Mauro, a son, Patrick Mauro, a daughter, Katherine Mauro, a granddaughter, Adrian Ogden, four sisters, Helen Legonci, Frances Chiarvalle, Margaret Naccarato and Maggie Cameon, and five brothers, Anthony, Emil, Albert, Frank and Theodore Mauro.

On November 8, 1997, he married Eva G. Mauro of Vestaburg, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Jill Pincus of St. Marten, Virgin Islands; two sons: Jack Mauro and Michael “Mike” Mauro both of Allentown, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Maryann Endsley of Vestaburg, Pa.; three stepsons: Steven Goozdich of Erie, Pa., Mitchell Goozdich III of Amherst, Ohio, and Mark Goozdich of Scenery Hill, Pa.; five grandchildren and seven step-grandsons; and two sisters: Virginia Quattro of Monessen, Pa., and Teresa Sabol of North Charleroi, Pa.

Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, Pa., where friends will gather Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. to proceed to Saint Michael Archangel Roman Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 a.m. with the Rev.

Father Paul Grunebach as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery, Belle Vernon, Pa.

The Steele-Lillie American Legion Post 744 will provide Military Honors in the Funeral Home on Monday at 8 p.m.
