More donations arrive for Give-A-Christmas

The 2006 Give-A-Christmas total now stands at $12,106.71, thanks to Herald-Standard readers who have contributed $1,523 in their latest donations. “Wow! I’m impressed. Thanks so much for that boost in our donations,’ said Sparkle, the Christmas star. “But please keep up the good work. We’re just a week away from our deadline and we want to raise $40,000 to give to the Salvation Army. Remember, all donations will be used by the Salvation Army to help people in your neighborhoods, so won’t you help today?’

The latest donations came from Uniontown, McClellandtown, Perryopolis, Hopwood, Hiller, Grindstone, Merrittstown, Fairchance, Lemont Furnace, Brownsville and New Salem.

Groups that participated included Christian Men’s Fellowship Breakfast in Uniontown, Springdale Wednesday Night Ladies Golf League, Value City Receiving, Hopwood United Methodist Women and Perryopolis United Methodist Women.

“Thank you so much. We appreciate every donation,’ said Sparkle.

The Christmas star also received Christmas cards from Diane M. Holt of Uniontown, Cecelia Margaret McCay of Uniontown, Amanda and Olivia Glusica and Ray and Michael Werry of Hiller, Italia (Tillie) Valente of Merrittstown, Jessie Ford of Uniontown and Marie Furlong of Hiller as well as some nice notes:

“Dear Sparkle, I hope you make your goal. I want this money to go to the Salvation Army in Brownsville. Thank you very much,’ wrote Charlotte A. Drylie.

“Keep up your efforts Sparkle,’ wrote Jeannette Sproul of Uniontown.

“Thanks for all the kind words,’ said Sparkle. “And to those of you who are thinking of participating, please hurry. The deadline is only days away.’

The deadline for donations is noon Dec. 22. The final total will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition of the newspaper.

Donations can be mailed to Give-A-Christmas, P.O. Box 1147, Uniontown, Pa. 15401 or brought to the offices of the Herald-Standard in Connellsville and Uniontown weekdays during business hours. Sparkle cans also have been placed in 250 store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
