Herald-Standard readers have contributed another $510 to the 2006 Give-A-Christmas fund, which now stands at $12,616.71. The latest donations came from Lemont Furnace, Vanderbilt, Uniontown, Smithfield and Masontown.

“I want to thank you all for deciding to participate in the campaign,’ said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is mascot for Give-A-Christmas. “We really want to help the Salvation Army and we’re hoping to raise $40,000 by Friday. Your contributions will help us. But remember that our deadline is just days away.’

Groups that participated Friday included Juniata United Methodist Women and Asbury United Methodist Men, both in Uniontown, as well as from Uniontown’s Magical Cookie Tour.

“Thanks to all of you. It’s so nice when groups participate,’ said Sparkle.

The Christmas star also received the following nice notes from donors:

“Dear Sparkle, We hope this gift helps you reach your goal. We encourage others to donate to this campaign because the Salvation Army is a very compassionate organization. God bless us all,’ Carl and Shelley Williams of Uniontown wrote.

“Dear Sparkle, God bless you for helping to make this happen,’ wrote Bill and Peggy Dean of Flatwoods.

The deadline for donations is noon Friday. The final total will be reported in the Christmas Eve edition of the newspaper.

Donations can be mailed to Give-A-Christmas, P.O. Box 1147, Uniontown, Pa. 15401 or brought to the offices of the Herald-Standard in Connellsville and Uniontown weekdays during business hours. Sparkle cans also have been placed in 250 store locations in the Herald-Standard distribution area.
