Jack R. Whitby
Jack R. Whitby, 80, of Hopwood, Pa., died Friday, December 15, 2006, in Life Care Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born November 27, 1926, in Uniontown, Pa., the son of the late Robert Whitby and Goldie Walls Whitby.
He was a graduate of Uniontown High School with the class of 1944 and attended Northwestern University.
Jack served in the United States Navy during World War II. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy Training Center at Sampson, New York, with Company 139, December 26, 1944. He was a radio operator on the destroyer, the USS Perry 844.
He was a mechanical contractor and with his son, operated Whitby, Inc. He was a past board member of the State Theatre and member of the Laurel Mechanical Contractors Association and Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 354.
Jack was an avid fan of Laurel Highlands Soccer games and the Steelers.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Cassinotti Whitby; a son, Larry Whitby and his wife, Bonnie of Uniontown; two grandchildren: Ben and Caroline Whitby of Pittsburgh; a sister-in-law, Joyce Goodstein and her husband, Jack of Hopwood; his loving mother-in-law, Margaret Cassinotti of Uniontown; his loving aunt, Helen Polink of Uniontown; a brother-in-law, Rt. Air Force Lt. Col. Joseph Cassinotti and his wife, Norma of Florida.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Sunday, December 17, 2006, from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, December 19, 2006, from 11:30 a.m. until noon followed by a Prayer Service at noon with the Rev. Father Kenneth Zaccagnni officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Macrina, Uniontown, Pa. Military Rites will be accorded at the cemetery.
