Brownsville Shopkeep moves to new site
The Shopkeep, a private business providing custom made historic clothing reproductions and accessories for living historians, has purchased and moved into the old Sidler building, 25 Market St., in the neck area of Brownsville.
The Shopkeep is the first private venture to revitalize a building in the neck area.
Cheryl Hough, owner, said she has spent two months “attempting to bring the old Sidler building back to the way it was after purchasing the building through an installment sales agreement financed and arranged through BARC (Brownsville Area Revitalization Corp.) “While not complete, the renovations are well on the way and have stabilized and made safe this grand building,’ she added.
For more information, call Hough at 724-825-1772.

Food stores collect $440,000
Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets customers came through in a big way for Children’s Miracle Network. The grocery chains recently wrapped their annual “Candles for Kids” in-store holiday campaign with record results; a total of $440,570 was raised. This donation will go to benefit local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals throughout Giant/Martin’s operating areas.
Sponsored by Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets, “Candles for Kids” is an annual three-week program that ran this year from Nov. 26 to Dec. 10. Customers were encouraged to purchase a paper candle at the checkout for $1 each. They were encouraged to write their names on these candles, which were then displayed in the stores. Last year, “Candles for Kids” Giant/Martin’s customers and associates raised just over $390,000. There is a Martin’s store in Connellsville.
