Scottdale woman killed in traffic accident
An 88-year-old Scottdale woman died in a traffic accident in East Huntingdon Township early Saturday afternoon, according to state police in Greensburg. Police identified the victim of the crash as Emma Rega Vicchy of Kline Street. Police said Vicchy’s vehicle was traveling southbound on Route 819 when it left the roadway for unknown reasons and sideswiped a utility pole at 11:31 a.m. Saturday.
The vehicle then continued south off the roadway with no braking, crashed through a sign for the West Overton Museum and then struck a building at the museum before coming to rest, said police.
Vicchy was pronounced dead in the emergency room at Frick Hospital, Excela Health in Mount Pleasant at 11:56 a.m.
Police said no one else was involved in the crash and no other injuries resulted.
According to her obituary, Vicchy was a devout Catholic and faithful member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church of Scottdale and had been employed as a salesclerk at the former Millers department store in Scottdale and the former Ames department store prior to her retirement.
She was born in Calvanico, Italy on May 19, 1917, the daughter of the late Samuel and Josephine Constible Rega. Her husband, Frank M. Vicchy, her three brothers and her two sisters preceded her in death.
Her family will greet friends at the Frank Kapr Funeral Home located at 417 W. Pittsburgh St. in Scottdale.
