DeWeese seeks veterans
State Rep. H. William DeWeese (D-Waynesburg) is asking area residents to help him identify World War II and Korean War veterans living in the 50th Legislative District so they can be honored at a special ceremony in August. DeWeese requests that World War II and Korean War veterans or their friends and families contact his Waynesburg or Hiller offices and provide the veteran’s name, rank, branch of service and time of service. A phone number and home address also are needed so veterans can be contacted with more details regarding the ceremony.
“The achievements of those millions of selfless men and women who nobly served our nation in World War II and Korea defy measure. They literally saved the world and created the America in which we live today. With the passing of each year, their ranks are thinning. Although we honor all who ever served, it is altogether fitting that we make a special effort now to recognize these, our most senior veterans,” said DeWeese.
The recognition ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Co. For questions or to provide information about an area World War II or Korean War veteran, call either Herb Wagener in DeWeese’s Waynesburg office at 724-627-8683 or Jo Lofstead in the Hiller office at 724-785-8477. Information also may be e-mailed to veterans@pahouse.net.
