Menallen supervisors crack down on lawn maintenance

By Rebekah Sungala 2 min read

MENALLEN TWP. – During a brief meeting Thursday, township supervisors said they are taking a firm stance against people who are not cutting their grass. Township supervisor Robert “Tweety” Yatsko said the code enforcement officer will issue citations to anyone in violation of township code.

“They’ll be fined,” he said, adding that no more warnings will be given.

Yatsko said there are several residences in Buffington that need to have the grass cut and the yard cleaned up.

“People whose grass is high will get a citation,” he said.

Yatsko said the supervisors are finished playing games with people who violate the code and that the township will take legal action against people who are issued citations and don’t pay the fine.

As for other business, supervisors announced the annual township picnic will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at the New Salem Fireman woods on New Salem Road.

Supervisors said there will be entertainment and food.

“It’s open to all township residents both past and present,” supervisor Joe Petrucci said.

The township began holding annual picnics in 1998. Since that time, supervisors said it has become a popular event and that residents look forward to it every year.

The picnic is open to everyone free of charge and is paid for with money that has been donated or generated through fund-raisers, supervisors said, noting that no tax money is used.

In further matters, supervisors awarded several bids for stone and anti-skid material to the lowest bidders. Coolspring Stone Supply and Golden Eagle, both of Uniontown, were awarded bids, as was Hanson Aggregates of Connellsville.

The next supervisors meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 3 in the municipal building.
