Peter Frederick Rose
Peter Frederick Rose, 81, a lifelong resident of Brownsville, Pa., passed away Monday, July 3, 2006, in LifeCare Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born on December 13, 1924, in Brownsville, Pa., the Son of Samuel Rose and Rosina Savona Rose.
Peter attended local schools until his senior year of high school. In 1943, he graduated from McKinley Tech High School in Washington, D.C. after being selected as an outstanding business student to work for the government’s general accounting office during World War II.
Pete moved to California for a brief time where he attended Los Angeles City College, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and University of Southern California (USC). He also worked for the Los Angeles County Civil Service Tax Collector Office.
He returned to Pennsylvania and completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in education at the University of Pittsburgh in 1948. While at Pitt, he was active in the theater and drama departments, appearing in many productions. He took on various jobs while working his way through school.
Upon completion of his degree, Pete returned to Brownsville to work for the family business, Sam Rose Transfer until it was sold. He lived at the family home until August 2001. He spent his remaining years at the Brownsville and Bentleyville Personal Care Homes until his death on July 3, 2006, after an illness of several months.
Peter was a member of The Historic Church of Saint Peter in Brownsville and also the Crosskeys Center, Brownsville.
Peter was well known throughout the community for his great singing voice and wealth of information about Brownsville, its’ people and the surrounding area.
He was predeceased by his Parents, two Brothers, Anthony Rose and Thomas Rose, three Sisters, Lena, Ann and Pauline Rose, Sister-in-law, Irene Rose, Brother-in-law, Glenn Hofsommer, and a Nephew, William Hofsommer.
He will be greatly missed by his remaining family; sisters: Josephine Rose and Angella Rose Hofsommer of San Leandro, California; one nephew, Tom Hofsommer and his wife, Diane, and their daughter, Molly, of Cameron Park, California; one niece, Nancy Hennefer and her husband, Greg, of Lodi, California; cousins; and other relatives and friends.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 PARK STREET, BROWNSVILLE, Pa., today, July 11, from 9 until 10:30 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.
A Funeral Mass follows at 11 a.m. in The Historic Church of Saint Peter in Brownsville, Pa., with the Rev. Father Vincent Gigliotti as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery on Route 40, Brownsville, Pa.
