Uniontown council’s meeting not advertised

By Steve Ferris 1 min read

Uniontown Mayor James Sileo said some confusion in City Hall led council to conduct a meeting on Monday that was not advertised. Council approved paying some bills and Emergency Municipal Service Tax refunds during the brief meeting, but, Sileo said, council will have to vote again on those resolutions at a special meeting that will be scheduled for later this month.

He said he mistakenly believed the meeting was advertised.

Council’s regular meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday each month.

The first Monday was July 5 and no meeting was held then.

The agenda from council’s last meeting, which was a special meeting on June 29, stated that council’s next meeting would be held at 10 a.m. July 10.

Solicitor Daniel Webster, who did not attend Monday’s meeting, said it should have been advertised because it was not held on the regular meeting date.

He said he will advise council to vote on the resolutions, which were approved Monday, again at another meeting.

Councilmen Joseph Giachetti and Blair R. Jones Sr. and Sileo attended the meeting. Councilmen Bob Cerjanec and Gary Crozier were absent.

Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Law requires that all public government meetings be advertised.
