Service station robbery probed
Waynesburg police are investigating an armed robbery at the High Street Exxon gas station on Wednesday, the third robbery reported in the borough in the past two weeks. Borough Police Chief Tim Hawfield said a man approached the Exxon station, located at 829 E. High St., and surprised the clerk by brandishing a silver pistol of unknown model or caliber.
The suspect then demanded the clerk to hand over an undetermined amount of money, then fled on foot, heading north toward Woodland Avenue, Hawfield said.
The suspect was described as a black male in his mid-20s, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a slender build. He was wearing a hooded gray sweatshirt that was pulled tight around his head, sunglasses and baggy black sweatpants.
State police at Waynesburg assisted in the investigation, Hawfield said.
On June 30, a robber walked into Community Bank at 11:15 a.m. and showed a note to one of the tellers saying that he had a gun, made verbal threats to the teller and demanded money, according to reports.
After receiving an undetermined amount of money, the suspect fled the bank. Hawfield said the suspect was last seen fleeing south on foot on South Washington Street.
The suspect was described as being white, or possibly Hispanic, in his early 30s to 40s. He was wearing a burnt orange plaid shirt and baggy, tan khaki pants. He also was wearing mirrored sunglasses, Hawfield said.
Three days later, an armed robbery occurred at the 7-11 convenience store, located at 1265 E. High St. in Franklin Township, at 1:19 a.m. Police said the white male, believed to be between 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet in height, with a heavy muscular build, entered into the store brandishing a handgun. He stole undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, and then fled the scene on foot. The suspect was wearing a gray skull cap, gray long sleeve shirt, a gray neck scarf, blue jeans and sneakers, police said.
The two previous robberies still are under investigation. As of press time, there were no updated developments regarding eitherholdup.
