Harry Richard ‘Dick” Sparks
Harry Richard “Dick” Sparks, 79, of Indian Head, Pa., passed away in his home, with his wife of 59 years, Loretta, at his side on Thursday, July 13, 2006. He was born December 3, 1926, in Indian Head, the son of the late Harry and Mabel Warrick Sparks.
He married his wife, Loretta Gregor Sparks on August 25, 1946.
“Dick” lived in Indian Head all of his life.
Prior to his retirement he was in the automobile and lumber business for 42 years.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was a member of King Solomon’s Lodge 346 F&AM, which he joined in 1952 and was a 50 year member. He was also a 50-year member of the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and the Syria Shrine Temple of Pittsburgh and his Masonic affiliations also included the Pittsburgh Consistory and he was a past president of the Uniontown Caravan 9 of the Syria Shrine. He was a 50-year member and past District Governor of Lions Club International for District 14 M, member and past president of the Indian Creek Valley Lions Club for 44 years and a current member of the Bullskin Township Lions Club, which he joined in 1992.
“Dick” was also a past board member of the Beacon Lodge Camp for the blind, past board member of the Saltlick Township Planning Commission, member of the Saltlick Township Vacancy Board for many years he was a member of the Mt. Nebo Church of God.
In addition to his wife, Loretta, he is survived by his children: Harry Robert Sparks, John “Rick” Sparks, Sharon Chackan and her husband, Daryl “Buss”, Shelly Sabean and her husband, Fritz and Lucinda Jo “Cindy” Sparks; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ruth Ohler and Audrice Geary and her husband, Allen.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Helen Sparks and a brother-in-law, Frank Ohler.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 2 to 9 p.m. on Sunday in the CLYDE BROOKS FUNERAL HOEM, INC., Route 711, Melcroft, Pa., where services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday with the Rev. Homer Miller officiating.
Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, Pa.
The Bullskin Town Lions Club will conduct a Memorial Service at 7 p.m. and the King Solomon’s Lodge will conduct a Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Both in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Mt. Nebo Church of God or to Medi Home Hospice, 308 Haynes Street, Johnstown, Pa. 15901 in memory of Harry Richard “Dick” Sparks.
