Leona Grace Gilland Martin

Leona Grace Gilland Martin, 88, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, July 13, 2006, in the Uniontown Hospital. She was born January 30, 1918, in Smock, Pa., the daughter of the late James Gilleland and Elizabeth “Bess” Cooper Gilleland.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Francis Martin, brothers, Floyd Gilleland, Willard Gilland, Howard Gilland, sisters, Alberta Arison, Violet Novak and Bernice Rabatin.

Leona was a United States veteran of the Army serving in World War II where she held the rank of Corporal and was a member of Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church.

She is survived by her loving children: Sandra McClean and husband, Gary of Flatwoods, Pa., Carla Vernon and husband, Tom of Uniontown; her grandchildren whom she loved and cherished: Ryan McClean and wife, Jill, Jace McClean and wife, Kelli, Jessica Scott and husband, Jason, Leighann McClean, Ashley Vernon and Fianc?, Ben Weimer; her great-grandchildren who lovingly called her “Grandma Martin”: Kaleb, Emma and Carson Scott and Ava McClean. Leona was anxiously awaiting the birth of three new beautiful great-grandchildren.

Her favorite family pet, Lovely, also survives her.

Friends will be received in the STEPHEN E. KEZMARSKY III FUNERAL HOME AT 71 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE, UNIONTOWN, Pa. this morning, July 15, 2006, from 8 to 9 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said followed by a 9:30 Mass of Christian Burial in Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Michael J. Crookston as Celebrant.

Interment follows in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
