Catherine D. Kulak DeAntonio
Catherine D. Kulak DeAntonio, age 93, of Marianna, Pa., died Friday, July 14, 2006, in the Bentleyville home of her daughter, Karen Pepper. She was born December 30, 1912, in California, Pa., the daughter of John Kulak and Katherine Sealy Kulak.
She attended California Area High School, California Normal School and California State Teachers College (now California University of Pennsylvania) where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
She taught English at California Junior High School for over 38 years, retiring in 1974.
She was a member of Saints Mary and Ann Roman Catholic Church, Saint Oliver Plunkett Parish, in Marianna where she was a member of The Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She loved her church and enjoyed helping when she could.
She was a member of the P.S.E.A. (Pennsylvania State Education Association), California Area Teacher’s Association, Marianna Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and local Girl Scout and Brownie troops, and she enjoyed taking children on field trips.
She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and the 500 Club.
During her leisure time, she liked to knit, crochet and quilt. She especially enjoyed times with her granddaughter, Kathie, cooking and entertaining.
On April 9, 1942, in Maryland, she married Anthony “Scap” DeAntonio. He died in 2000.
Catherine was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Kulak, and a sister, Margaret Kulak Maguda.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen V. Pepper of Bentleyville, Pa.; a granddaughter, Kathie L. Pepper of Bentleyville; a niece, Maryann (and Frank) Chiappetta; five nephews: Ken (and Dia) Kulak, Bill Antonio, Bob (and Toni) Maguda, Mark (and Sandy) Maguda and James (and Iva) Maguda; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
Visitation will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the NICHOL FUNERAL HOME, 1728 Main Street, Marianna, PA 15345 (724-267-3111) where a Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 11 a.m. in Saints Mary and Ann Roman Catholic Church, Saint Oliver Plunkett Parish, Marianna, with the Rev. Father Paul Grunebach as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Horn Cemetery, Marianna.

The Confraternity of Christian Mothers will recite the Rosary in the Funeral Home today at 3 p.m.
Visitation was also held on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
