Joseph Andrew Hudak Sr.
Joseph Andrew Hudak Sr., age 79, of Uniontown, Pa., died peacefully in his home with his wife of 58 years and family at his side. He was born February 15, 1927, in Hecla, Pa.
Joseph was a World War II veteran and a member of The Catholic War Veterans, The Slovak Catholic Sokol and the American Legion Post 423.
He was a Lifetime Member of the Boy Scouts of America and the recipient of The Silver Beaver Award and The Saint George Award.
Joseph was a member of The Secular Franciscan Order of Saint Anthony Friary in Uniontown, Pa., The Knights of Columbus and Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church where he was also President of the Altar Rosary Society
Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters, Helen, Mary Fada and Dorothy Peskie, a brother, Jozef, his daughter, Marlene, and a great-grandchild, Samuel Varndell.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Betty; a daughter, Elizabeth (and Harry) Varndell of Utah; a son, Joseph (and Judy) of Utah; a son, David (and Shannon) of Waynesburg, Pa.; a daughter, Jane Ann Pikavsky of Florida; a daughter, Mary (and David) Williams of Uniontown, Pa.; a son, William (and Debra) of Smithfield, Pa.; a son, Matthew (and Veronica) of West Virginia; a son, the Rev. Father Mark Hudak, O.F.M., of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a son, Edward (and Lisa) of Arkansas; two sisters: Pauline Habit of Uniontown, Pa., and Josephine Tran of New Orleans; a brother, James (and Mary) Hudak of Elyria, Ohio; 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 603 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., today and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, until 10:15 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, North Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown.
Interment will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Brookville, Pa.
A Parish Wake Service will be held in the Funeral Home today at 2:30 p.m.
Saint Mary’s Rosary Society will recite the Rosary in the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
The Catholic War Veterans will hold a Ritual on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Old Trail Boy Scouts of America will conduct a Candlelight Service in the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
