Woman waives charges to court

A 41-year-old Uniontown woman charged with aggravated assault after she allegedly stabbed a man in the leg July 11 waived all charges to court this week. Betty J. Miller of 71 Wayne St. was charged before Magisterial District Judge Mark Blair in the 1:37 a.m. incident on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, harassment, resisting arrest and driving after imbibing alcohol, which later was changed to driving while under the influence of alcohol following blood tests.

Uniontown police said Miller attempted to run over Henry Crawford, address unavailable, with her vehicle and stabbed him in the leg during an argument.

On Tuesday, Miller waived the charges to court, according to Blair’s office.

In the criminal complaint submitted by Uniontown police Sgt. Wayne Brown, he said he reported to Wayne Street after a caller to 911 complained that a woman driving a large vehicle was attempting to run over a man.

Upon arrival, Brown said he saw Crawford on the street. Brown said Crawford pointed to the car and said, “That’s the car.”

Brown pulled Miller over, but she got out of the vehicle and proceeded into her 71 Wayne St. home, despite orders by Brown to stop, Brown said.

Brown said he then spoke with Crawford, who was bleeding from a stab wound in his leg.

After calling for an ambulance, Brown said he and patrolmen Chuck David and Dave Rutter further questioned Crawford, who told police he and Miller had an argument during which she stabbed him in the leg with a knife and tried to run him over.

Brown said he then attempted to enter 71 Wayne St. but was denied entry by Miller. Brown said police then entered the home by force, and Rutter attempted to take Miller into custody but was met with resistance.

Miller swung her arms repeatedly at Rutter. Officers had to apply force to take her into custody, Brown said.

During the arrest, Miller swore repeatedly at the officers and called them “pigs.”

Miller was initially placed in the Fayette County Prison on $50,000 bond, but posted a $10,000 reduced bail Tuesday, according to court records.

She will be formally arraigned in Fayette County Court at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 17.
