Vera L. Veatch Gillis Umbel
Vera L. Veatch Gillis Umbel, 79, of Brownsville, Pa., passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2006, in the Uniontown Hospital. She was born on July 6, 1927, in Denbeau Heights, Pa., the 11th child of 12 children of the late Clinton and Anne (Hoover) Veatch.
Mrs. Umbel retired after many years of service with the former Brownsville Hardware Store.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth E. Gillis, second husband, Robert Umbel who died on January 22, 2006, and ten brothers and sisters.
She is survived by three children: Linda Ritsko and husband, Greg of Denbeau Heights, Kevin C. Gillis and wife, Janis of Vestaburg, Pa. and Stephanie Johns and husband, Richard with whom she made her home of Brownsville, Pa.; six grandchildren: Greg Ritsko and wife, Melinda, Renee Dillon and husband, Don, Kevin C. Gillis Jr. and wife, Dina, Angela Johns, Richard Johns Jr. and Marissa Gillis; seven great-grandchildren: Gregory III, Steven, Emily, Samantha, Donald, Nicolas and Mya; one sister, Merna J. Urso of Washington, Pa.; a special nephew, Charles Eutsey of Indiana; several close nieces, nephews and cousins by the dozens.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, Pa., on Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held in Phillipsburg Cemetery with Mr. Frank Tether Elder of the Brownsville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses officiating and will be private for the family.
