Uniontown Burd gains CIC designation

Wendy A. Burd of the William Rittenhouse Agency Inc. in Uniontown has been named a certified insurance counselor (CIC) following her successful completion of an insurance education program sponsored by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors.

The announcement was made by Dr. William R. Hold, president of the Society of CIC.

The Society of CIC is a member of the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research, a national provider of insurance and risk management education. The National Alliance conducts more than 2,500 programs annually, throughout all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean. Currently, more than 24,000 agents and insurance professionals throughout the country have received the CIC designation.

Burd has demonstrated her professional competence through the successful completion of the five CIC institutes and comprehensive written examinations focusing on all major fields of insurance, insurance management, and agency operations, Hold said.

She has been employed by the William Rittenhouse Agency Inc., 48 W. Fayette St., Uniontown, since 1995.

Business plan information offered

The St. Vincent College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host a seminar entitled, Anatomy of a Business Plan, on August 23. The seminar will be held at St. Vincent College from 1:30 to 4 p.m., with registration beginning at 1 p.m.

This workshop shows the importance of a business plan for start-up and established businesses. A business plan is the roadmap to a successful on-going business. Participants will have an opportunity to learn the five major reasons for business planning, the three main parts of a business plan and the 12 sections in a business plan outline, as well as an overview of what is included in each section.

Peter Tulk, business analyst at the St. Vincent College Small Business Development Center, will present this seminar.

There is a fee to attend that includes afternoon snacks and all of the necessary materials.

The St. Vincent College SBDC is part of a statewide system of university-based economic development organizations, whose mission is to provide education and consulting to entrepreneurs to help them start and grow their businesses in the competitive global economy.

SCORE plans business workshop

SCORE will present a Small Business Basics Workshop on Aug. 12 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Point Park University, Boulevard of the Allies and Third Avenue in the JVH Theater on the second floor, downtown Pittsburgh.

The workshop is designed to help people succeed in starting a new business and in growing an existing small business.

The agenda includes: planning, financing, marketing, insurance, human resources, management, legal aspects, record keeping and business taxes for small business.

There is a fee that includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Reduced rates are available for group registrations.
