William F. Takish Sr.

William F. Takish Sr., age 83, of Uniontown, Pa., died peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2006 in his home. He was born on July 20, 1923, in West Leisenring, Pa., the son of Joseph Takac and Catherine (Hominsky) Takac.

His parents, son, William F. Takish Jr., brothers, John Takac, Joseph Takac and Donald Takac, and a sister, Theresa Takac Pasulka, preceded him in death.

William was a member of Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church and The Polish Club both in Uniontown, Pa.

He graduated from Connellsville High School and served his country during World War II with the United States Army in the European Theatre of Operations.

He retired from the now former Thorofare Supermarket where he was a meat cutter for 31 years.

In the 1950’s, he and his wife, Agnes, also operated Barbara’s Market in Uniontown.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 63 years, Agnes F. (Shaffer) Takish; two daughters: Barbara A. DeCarlo and her husband, Tony, of Uniontown, Pa., and Susan M. Miller of Longwood, Florida; four grandchildren: Dawn Marie Hunt and her husband, Roger, and Amy Beth DeCarlo all of Uniontown, Pa., Ian G. Keller of Longwood, Florida, and Dru Leslie Miller of Atlanta, Georgia; three great-grandchildren: Coleman Hunt, Bonnie Hunt and Emma Keller; a sister, Katherine Fair of Connellsville, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Ann Takac of Greensburg, Pa., and Rita Takac of Florida; also many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, Pa., today (Monday, July 31) until 9 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Old Walnut Hill Road, with the Rev. Father Alexander L. Pleban as Celebrant.

Interment will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery, Brookvale, Pa., where Military Honors will be accorded by the Uniontown American Legion Post 51.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown, PA 15401.

Visitation was also held on Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Saint Joseph’s Confraternity of Christian Mothers recited the Rosary in the Funeral Home on Sunday at 3:15 p.m.

The Parish Family Vigil by The Ministry of Consolation was held on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
