Menallen Township supervisors sign off on grant alltoment
MENALLEN TWP. – The supervisors signed off on their $81,000 allotment of Community Block Development Grant (CBDG) money, noting the funds will be used for road reconstruction and home rehabilitation. At the regular meeting Thursday night, Supervisor John Yantko said the funds will pay for paving on Krulock Road and part of Kaider Road. Yantko said the piping on the roads was done last year.
The home rehabilitation, Yantko said, is for low- and moderate-income people who apply for the program through the Fayette County Redevelopment Authority.
The supervisors also:
– Heard from solicitor Doug Sepic about additions to an animal control ordinance. Sepic said he sent a copy of the proposed ordinance to secretary Linda Burke after adding a part about vicious dogs, specifically pit bulls. Pending the supervisors’ approval, the ordinance will be adopted at the supervisors next regular meeting scheduled for April 6 at 7 p.m. in the township building.
– Tentatively scheduled Clean Up Week for April 17 – 21.
– Announced that meeting to start a community crime watch will be held at the Keisterville Union Church at 6:30 p.m. on March 9. Supervisor Robert “Tweety” Yatsko said the state police community crime watch coordinator, District Attorney Nancy Vernon and Magisterial District Judge Joe George will be on hand as well as the township supervisors. He said residents wanted to start the watch after reports of paintball incidents and kids being on the streets at night.
– Noted that a problem with this year’s sewage bills was corrected. Yantko said the problem was caused when the computer didn’t register the changeover from 2005 to 2006. The problem did not result in customers being billed any additional amount, he said.
