John E. Bordas
John E. Bordas, age 85, of Perryopolis, Pa., passed away Monday, March 13, 2006, in Havencrest Personal Care. He was born on April 3, 1920, in Vanderbilt, Pa., and was the son of John V. Bordas and Helen Fedarko Bordas.
John was a member of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Perryopolis, Pa.
He was a Veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army. John was a survivor of D Day and landed on Omaha Beach.
John was also a member of the Perryopolis Gold Star Post 7023 and the Perryopolis Knights of Columbus Council 4424, as a 4th Degree.
He was retired from Local 3 Ironworkers after 35 years of service.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one son, John E. Bordas, Jr., two sisters, Ruth Bradford and Helen Belle “Barbara” Spofford, and a brother, William Bordas.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen Ondrako Bordas; one son, Joseph Bordas and his wife Debra of Belle Vernon, Pa.; two grandsons, Jonathan Bordas and Brian Bordas; four sisters, Regina Bordas of Perryopolis, Pa., Mary Kleber of Pittsburgh, Pa., Betty K. Casey of Perryopolis, Pa., and Delores Shafer of California state.
Friends will be received in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 106 East Independence Street, Perryopolis, Pa., Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a Prayer Service will be held Thursday, March 16, at 9:30 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis, with the Rev. Father John T. Euker as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Perryopolis, Pa.
Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Gold Star Post 7023 and the American Legion Post 752, Perryopolis.
A Wake Service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
