John J. Richnafsky

John J. Richnafsky, age 84, of Gates, Fayette County, Pa., died on Friday, March 24, 2006, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on November 15, 1921, in Thompson, Fayette County, Pa., the son of John J. Richnafsky Sr. and Elizabeth (Augustine) Richnafsky.

John was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Saint Mary Roman Catholic Church, Leckrone, Pa.

He graduated in the Class of 1941 from the now former German Township High School in McClellandtown, Pa.

He proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Navy in the European Theatre of Operations.

John retired from the United States Steel Corporation where he was a Supply Motorman at the Robena Mine for over forty-two years.

He was a mail carrier for the local rural area.

He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Robena Local Union 6321, a Lifetime Member of the Faith-Gray-McArdle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584, and a member of the Fort Mason American Legion Post 423 and the McClellandtown Volunteer Fire Department.

John was a former Third Degree member of The Knights of Columbus.

A collector of stamps, coins and various items, he also loved the outdoors and polka music and was an avid Steelers fan.

His parents, a sister, Mary Richnafsky, and a brother, Andrew Richnafsky, preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty-six years, Alice (Bobincheck) Richnafsky; two sons: John E. Richnafsky and his wife, Lynn, of McClellandtown, Pa., and Thomas B. Richnafsky and his wife, Mary, of Gates, Pa.; a grandson, Thomas M. Richnafsky; a sister, Elizabeth Parish of Masontown, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 515 North Main Street, Masontown, Pa., today and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 28, until 10 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Saint Mary Roman Catholic Church, Leckrone, Pa., with the Rev. Father Donald P. Trexler as Celebrant.

Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa., where Military Honors will be accorded by the Faith-Gray-McArdle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 and the Fort Mason American Legion Post 423.

The McClellandtown Volunteer Fire Department will hold Vigil on Monday evening at 8 p.m.
