Daniel W. Sedlock
Daniel W. Sedlock, 87 years, of Smithfield, Pa., died Saturday, March 25, 2006. He was born April 6, 1918, in Smithfield, Pa., son of John Sedlock Sr. and Mary Becaver Sedlock.
“Dan” was a member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church in Fairchance, Pa., where he formerly served as a Lector for many years.
He was a very active participant in the Smithfield Community. He served on the Borough Council for eight years, was Mayor for eight years, President of the Smithfield Colonial Seniors for 14 years and was a retired Smithfield Volunteer Fireman.
He helped in the formation of the Little League Baseball Teams in 1951 and his proudest accomplishment was forming the Smithfield Lions Club Chapter in 1952.
He was also a Scout Master for the Duquesne Boy Scouts.
“Dan” was also the proprietor of Sedlock Electric for many years until his retirement.
He was predeceased by his parents, his granddaughter, Jane Sedlock, two brothers and two sisters, John Sedlock Jr., Steve Sedlock, Ann Thornequist and Gertrude Scholl.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Eva Dunay Sedlock; three children: Dennis Sedlock and his wife Linda, Dayton, Ohio, Doreen Siegel Flinker and her husband Jack, New York City, New York, and Dan Sedlock Jr., Danville, California; five grandchildren: Julia Sedlock, Charlotte Sedlock, Jordan Sedlock, Bryon Coker and Tara Hucke; brothers and sisters: Andrew “Pins” Sedlock and his wife Lillian, Smithfield, Pa., Betty Tomczak, Tampa, Florida, Mary Scherer, Long Island, New York, Clara Hunt, Westover, West Virginia, and Madge Bloniarz, Star City, West Virginia; sister-in-law, Olga DeSellems, Uniontown, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., on Wednesday, March 29, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, March 30, until 9:30 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, with the Rev. Father Andrew M. Kawecki as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Saint John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa.
In memory of Daniel W. Sedlock, books and monetary donations may be made to the Smithfield Public Library, which he helped to establish.
Parish Wake Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
