Uniontown church pays tribute to soldiers

A Uniontown church will pay tribute to spouses, daughters, mothers and grandmothers of soldiers deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Calvary Baptist Church One Heart Ladies Ministry will hold a banquet for the women on Sunday, April 9, at the church located at 308 McClellandtown Road.

“We want to let them know how much we appreciate and love them,” said Jessica Judy, a member of the ministry.

Judy understands the anxiety tied to the active duty status of a soldier as her brother, Sgt. Patrick R. McConville, and uncle, Sgt. Maj. James Stewart, are both serving in Iraq.

“My brother and I are very close; I’d say best friends and it has been a difficult year not having him home to share in the joys of holidays, birthdays, Steeler parties and day-to-day activities,” she said. “You constantly worry about them being injured or killed.”

The ministry, said Judy, is comprised of nearly 25 members that meet monthly. Its mission is to reach out to the community.

The group, said Judy, wanted to do something for the women with loved ones stationed overseas and decided to bring them together for a banquet.

Children attending will be cared for during the banquet to allow mothers the opportunity to talk with one another.

Those wanting to attend are asked to call Judy at 724-737-5290 by Saturday.
