Barbara Crockett Glod

Barbara Crockett Glod, 89, of Centerville, Pa., died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Ellsworth on August 29, 1916, to Peter and Margaret Barnes Crockett. On November 27, 1953, she married Frank Glod who died in 1984.

A 1934 graduate of Centerville High School, she went on to earn a Bachelor in Education degree from California State Teachers’ College. For 42 years she taught kindergarten trough third grade in the Bethlehem Center Elementary Schools. Mrs. Glod was a long time member of the Centerville United Methodist Church, and a former secretary of the Denbo United Methodist Church. She was a 50-year member of the Old Trails Business and Professional Women and a life member of PSEA/NEA.

Mrs. Glod particularly enjoyed traveling, shopping, appreciating nature, playing games and spending family time with her many nieces and nephews. She was the last of her 14 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Glod is survived by Helen Louise Crawford, of Maryville, T.N., a niece who was raised as her sister; her beloved nephew, Peter Ramsey of Centerville; and Lori Confer Martin the niece who handled her affairs. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including several with whom she maintained close contact: Margaret Ann Miller and Nancy Wright of Beallsville, Barbara Knight of Washington, Patricia Driscoll of State College, Margaret Driscoll-Little of Stratham, N.H., Kathy Grooms and Donna Bongiorno of California, P.A., Bonnie Skaggs and Thomas Crockett of Florida and Robert Confer of Uniontown, Mrs. Glod had numerous great nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were eight sisters: Mary Kitchen, Jean Crockett, Helen Bach, Margaret Jackson, Elizabeth Williams, Marion Ramsey, Anne Driscoll and Doris Confer; five brothers: William (Pim), Joseph, Peter, Thomas and Jack Crockett.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.. Friday in the JOHN B. GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, Route 40, Beallsville, PA., where services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2006 with Rev. Edd Myers officiating.

Interment will be in the LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill.
