The Uniontown Parks and Recreation Department and the Bailey Park Baseball Boosters will start selling tickets next week for Uniontown Day at Kennywood Park, which is Memorial Day, May 29.

The cost of admission and an all-day ride pass is $17 per person and children ages 2 and under will be admitted for free. The tickets can be used any day in May or June except June 23. Tickets will cost $28.95 if purchased at the gate.

Tickets will be on sale beginning May 10 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the booster’s concession stand behind the small field at Bailey Park. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 724-439-5704 and leaving a message.

Bus rides to Kennywood are also available. The cost of a Kennywood ticket and the bus ride is $27 per person. Chaperones will not be provided.

Buses will leave from the parking garage on Church Street at 9:45 a.m. May 29. Parking in the garage will be free. The buses will leave from Kennywood at 9 p.m.

If the event of bad weather, Uniontown Day will be held on June 11.

Bicycle even slated

A bicycle safety derby has been scheduled for area children 14 and younger that will give parents a chance to have their youngster’s bicycles inspected and registered and have safety gear, including helmets, examined.

The derby, scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, will give children the opportunity to test their skills on a bicycle safety course at the Uniontown Fire Department Social Hall.

According to AAA East Central and other sponsors, including the state Department of Transportation and state Department of Health, with exception to the automobile, bicycles are the leading consumer product contributing to childhood injuries.

The National SAFE KIDS Campaign found in a recent study that more than 28 million children ride bicycles and about 362,000 are injured each year in bicycle accidents.

Speaker set

Masontown United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Main and Cross streets, has announced that a representative from Highmark Blue Shield will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to explain the choices seniors have in their new drug plans.

Officials said, “Many people are confused or overwhelmed by the variety and complexity of choices. This one-hour educational event will help to clarify the choices that are available and answer any questions that people may have.’
