Crane causes power outage

By The 1 min read

Several city blocks lost electricity Monday afternoon in Uniontown after a crane working in the area struck power lines in an alley near Church Street around 3 p.m., according to a power company official. Allen Staggers, corporate manager for Allegheny Energy, said 28 homes and businesses lost power for more than an hour after the lines were hit at 28 Church St., knocking out power to several businesses including the Herald-Standard, CRH Catering, Romeo’s World Importing and an apartment building on Gallatin Avenue.

Staggers said a fuse blew in the transformer when the crane struck the lines. The crane is owned by Anthony Crane.

“We have fuses on the lines just like the fuses you use in your home,” Staggers said.

He said crews had the fuse replaced and the power restored about 20 minutes after arriving at the scene.
