Groundwater festival set
CALIFORNIA – Welcoming more than 850 Washington County sixth-graders and teachers, the 11th annual Children’s Groundwater Festival will make a splash Wednesday, May 17, at California University of Pennsylvania. Six public and three parochial schools will attend this year’s festival.
The public schools are: Allison Park and Bentworth elementary schools and California, McGuffy, Trinity and Washington middle schools and the three parochial schools are: John F. Kennedy Jr. Elementary, Madonna Catholic in Donora and St. Patrick Elementary in Cannonsburg.
The festival’s feature program is entitled “Water, Water Everywhere,” covering topics on water composition, conservation, pollution and ground water quality, created and performed by Jack Golden.
The California High School drum line, directed by Frank Stetar, will perform as part of the feature program. Students will also participate in activities, visit 25 exhibits and attend two of 17 classroom presentations addressing water-related issues.
The festival is the principal project of the Groundwater Coalition Education Committee of the Washington County Watershed Alliance.
