State police seek bank robbery suspect

By Josh Krysak 2 min read

CHALK HILL – State police are searching for a thin white man suspected of robbing the Parkvale Bank on Route 40 in Chalk Hill Thursday morning. Trooper George Mrosko said the man arrived at the bank on foot. He was described as being between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall and was wearing blue jeans, a Tommy Hilfiger fleece pullover and a white bandana.

Mrosko said the suspect, who was wearing sunglasses during the robbery, approached the teller and demanded money.

Police said the man did not pass a note to the teller, as is often the case in bank robberies, and did not brandish a weapon.

The bank teller gave the suspect an unspecified amount of cash from her teller’s drawer, and he then fled the scene on foot, Mrosko said.

Bank manager Lynn Mayle said no employees were injured during the robbery, but declined further comment.

Mrosko said, in addition to state police, the FBI is investigating the robbery.

The Chalk Hill robbery is the second walk-up bank robbery in Fayette County in the last week.

State police still are searching for a man who robbed the Scottdale Bank & Trust Co. in Vanderbilt on Saturday morning.

Trooper John S. Krause stated in a press release that the man walked up to the counter at the 123 Main St. bank carrying a newspaper and “demanded the teller turn over the money to him.”

Police said the man put the money into the newspaper, folded it and then fled on foot.

Officials were able to capture the man’s image on bank surveillance video. The man was wearing blue jeans, a Henley long-sleeved shirt, sunglasses and a knit cap

Police described the suspect as a white man between 20 and 30 years old, with a thin build and acne on his face and no facial hair.

Bill Crowley, spokesman for the FBI, said he could not comment on a possible connection in the cases until further investigation is conducted.

Anyone with information on either robbery is asked to call police at 724-439-7111.
